Situated in Travis County, Texas, Bee Cave is a small and vibrant city nestled about 25 miles west of Austin. With an estimated population of over 4,000 residents, it consists of three constituent neighborhoods and is one of the largest communities in the state of Texas with a majority of the population occupied in the jobs.

Bee Cave, as we know it today, didn’t come into existence until 1987. However, the idea of a community where people could live freely without the influence of a big city government has existed for more than 140 years. During the 1850s, Dietrich Bohls moved all the way from Austin to the confluence of Little Barton Creek and Barton Creek in search of a new home.

At that time, the population of Austin had surpassed 900 people and Dietrich Bohls was looking for a suitable place to raise his family away from the influence and confines of the city. The Bohls’ were one of the first to settle on the land that would later come to be known as Bee Cave - its name was derived from the massive colonies of Mexican Honeybees that encompassed a large portion of Western Travis County.

Fast-forward to 1987, the city’s administration had its humble yet proud start in a nondescript portable building, encompassing about 8,800 acres of extraterritorial jurisdiction. As of today, Bee Cave is a thriving community experiencing rapid growth in terms of not only population but also economic activity.

With recent new developments in residential real estate, more and more people are choosing to move to Bee Cave. Although the city doesn’t have its own public transportation system - which is often the case with small cities - it boasts some of the newest real estate on the market, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that it is experiencing a massive influx of affluent people.

Bee Cave Dog Park offers a multi-generational place to socialize, exercise and bring your do; Bee Cave Central Park is a 50-acre park that includes a small and large pavilion with playscapes as well as restroom facilities; Falconhead West Primitive Park is a primitive bike and hike trail ideal for an adventure; and Bee Cave Sculpture Park provides a 7-acre natural setting which showcases a combination of rotating and permanent sculptures.

Students in the city of Bee Cave are served by the Lake Travis Independent School District. Lakeway Elementary School, Lake Pointe Elementary School, and Bee Cave Elementary School serve the city and sections of Lakeway. Lake Travis High School and Lake Travis Middle School serve Bee Cave. Other schools in the area include Westlake High School (Texas) and Eanes Independent School District.
